Emergencies
At Mansfield Vet Clinic, all of our team are very experienced with emergencies, and we are ready for them 24/7. Some of the things we may come across include:
- Snakebite (usually Tigers or Browns)
- Hit by car
- Fractured limbs
- Dog fights or kangaroo altercations
- Wounds
- Toxicities (rat bait, snail bait, chocolate, illicit drugs)
- Gastric Dilation Volvulus (GDV, or bloat)
- Emergency caesarean
- Foreign body ingestion (carpet, socks, rocks, fish hooks, corn cobs…)
- Acute vomiting or diarrhoea
- Unexplained pain
Because emergencies usually occur when you least expect it, we highly recommend pet insurance for you pets. There are several insurance companies which offer a range of affordable options for insurance for your pet, and will give you the peace of mind that you will be covered should something go wrong. As with all insurances, please read the fine print and ensure you are covered for the things that are important to you.
Afterhours emergencies and on-call work while extremely rewarding, can also be very stressful for veterinarians, and this work is in addition to our normal working hours. Sometimes we are up all night with an emergency and then have to back it up with a full day at work the next day.
To help ease the stress on our vets, we have partnered with ‘VetChat’ to triage our afterhours calls.
VetChat offer an exceptional service of phone consultations with an experienced veterinarian. The VetChat veterinarian will take your call and if possible provide a solution over the phone, for only $39 before 12pm and $59 from midnight to 6am. If you need to be referred to our on-call veterinarian, VetChat will send through your details and we will get back to you straight away.
